It has taken me a while to write this blog. First because I cry every time I tried. Second because I wanted to get all the details of the story in there.
We were headed out the door the other day and a bird had fallen out of a tree above my car. Rylan saw it when he was getting in and told Jordon. Jordon told him not to touch it and got a stick to move the bird away from the car. When I got in the car Rylan looked at me and said, "Momma, is that bird gonna come alive again?" My heartbroke as I told him, no that bird lives in heaven in God now. I could tell he was mulling that over but I hoped my answer would satisfy him. We went on about our day with no more mention of the bird.
The next afternoon Rylan went out to play in the front yard. I went to check on him and he was around my car where I could not see him. He has been told not to go on that side of the car so he stays in my site. So I start reminding him of that. He told me he was looking at the bird. My first thought and questions was, "Did you touch it?" No he said but there are flies on it; as he tears up. I sat down and asked if that bothered him and he said yes. I told him we would cover the bird until Dad got home then we could bury it. Then we had to talk more about where the bird went and he asked some hard questions; like, "how did he go to live with God?" Wow try explaining that to a four-year old.
I sent Jordon a text to give him a heads up for when he got home. They found a nice spot in the flowers of the front yard and dug a hole. Jordon put the bird in and asked if he wanted to say anything. They both said some sweet things and bye to the bird. Yes I was taking pictures while crying my eyes out. Then Rylan reached down to get a handful of dirt and put it in the hole. Jordon handed him the shovel and they covered it. Then we found a rock to place on top. I took a video during some of it too but can't post it here. While Jordon was saying his part, Rylan reached over and put his arm around Jordon. It was so sweet, like he was comforting Jordon.
I probably learned more from this than he did; like as much as I try to shelter him from things he is going to have to face them eventually. I know this was just a random bird but some day it won't be.
Jordon giving me the "really, we are doing this and you are taking pictures."

Saying goodbye and both looking at me like why am I taking pictures.
